There are three types of saffron

1. Super Nagin or Grade 1 or All Red: All Red Sofran containing only stigmata. This is 100% premium saffron.

2. Nagin or Grade 2 or Thread: Contains red stigmata and connected to the yellow/white end of the style.

3. Pushali Saffron or Grade 3 or Bound: Contains the red stigmas related to the whole style.


How to grow saffron

To grow the saffron plant, you need Crocus sativus bulbs and a piece of land with clay or silica soil, writes pestre.ro. Saffron should be grown in an area where there is no excessive coolness and humidity. The best time to plant saffron is August-September. The bulbs should be planted about 10 cm deep, relatively far apart. Harvesting saffron flowers is recommended from October to November. After harvesting the flowers, the saffron threads are extracted by hand and then dried to obtain the spice.
